Saffron Walden's Essex County Councillor John Moran took up his appointment to Anglia [Central] Flood and Coastal Committee at Brampton, Cambs, last week.
The remit of the committee is to protect residential and commercial properties from flooding caused by water courses and the sea and to ensure that any works are carried out in a timely fashion that represents good value for money for tax payers.
Cllr Moran introduced onto the agenda the issue of the repair works required for the Slade culvert that runs under Saffron Walden town centre.
It is a project that represents the Environment Agency's top priority in the Anglia Central region over the next three years. Funding has been allocated and planning is advancing.
By volunteering to serve on the Flood committee Cllr Moran hopes that the required local input and scrutiny can be promoted.
He said: "I will be liaising closely with the Town Council on this matter to ensure that their elected officials across all parties are kept up to date on developments and, more importantly, that the voices of the residents and business people of the town are heard as this major piece of work goes forward."
