Dear Editor (Walden Local)
Thank you for printing my letter last week but what a shame you felt it necessary to add a comment at the end of it, which was again missing the point I was making. You said that the piece on 'Unaffordable Housing' was referring to the Persimmon Homes site Hamlet Close. Whilst you state that the cheapest house there is £300,000 you fail to mention that this was for an open market property and that this site also delivered its quota of "Affordable Rented and Shared Ownership' homes. All of the Affordable Rented properties will have been allocated to those on Uttlesford District Councils housing list.
So I repeat what I said last week, that UDC are only too aware that market housing is out of reach of many and that is why we work together with housing associations to deliver 'Affordable Rented' homes across the district including the sites in Saffron Walden. To claim otherwise is misleading your readers.
Kind Regards
Cllr Julie Redfern
Uttlesford District Member for Housing
