From 15 June, zoos and other outdoor attractions will be able to open with safeguards and limits on visitor numbers in place.
Yesterday the Prime Minister announced that from next Monday, zoos and other outdoor attractions will be allowed to open, so that people can enjoy the outdoors in safe way without risking the spread of coronavirus.
- Thanks to the huge sacrifices of the British people to help reduce the spread of coronavirus, we are now in a position where we can continue to cautiously ease social restrictions whilst avoiding the risk of a second wave.
- That is why from 15 June, zoos and other outdoor attractions such as safari parks and drive-in cinemas, will be allowed to reopen - provided visitor numbers are managed and appropriate safeguards are put in place to limit social interaction.
- This will give families more options to spend time outdoors during the summer months ahead, helping to restore our normal way of live whilst keeping the risk of further transmission down.
The Prime Minister has also announced that from this weekend, single adult households will be able to mix with one other household in ‘support bubbles’, helping those who are suffering from loneliness during this difficult time.
- Loneliness has been one of the most harmful effects of the current social restrictions, and there are many people – particularly those who live by themselves – who are struggling with being unable to see friends and family.
- That is why from this weekend, adults living alone – or single parents with children under 18 – will be able to form a ‘support bubble’ with one other household, meaning they can spend time together inside each others’ homes and interact with each other without needing to stay 2 metres apart.
- This is a targeted intervention that will help to support those who are particularly suffering from loneliness, so that as we continue to ease the current social restrictions no one feels isolated or left behind.
From next Monday, all shops will be allowed to reopen provided they are meeting robust safety guidelines, so that staff and customers are kept safe whilst we get retail moving again.
- This has been the most challenging period for shops and high streets in our history – we know the toll the last few months have taken on them, and we want to reopen our economy as soon as it is safe to do so.
- That is why from 15 June, non-essential shops, department stores and shopping centres will be able to reopen, provided they are meeting Covid Secure guidelines beforehand and have put in place all the necessary steps to keep their workers and customers safe.
- This will help to restart our economy and allow high streets across the country to spring back to life – whilst ensuring we keep the risk of infection down to avoid the possibility of a second wave.
Stay alert
We must stay alert, to control the virus, and save lives.
We can all help control the virus if we all stay alert. This means you must:
- Stay at home as much as possible
- Work from home if you can
- Limit contact with other people
- Keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible)
- Wash your hands regularly
- Self-isolate if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.
